There’s usually at least one golf tournament being played somewhere every week and most online sports books will be offering odds on the outcome. Prices offered on players to win the tournament are usually quite generous or may seem so, but you have to remember that most tournaments have 156 players in the field at the start of the competition so it’s pretty high odds that you will come up with a winner.
So how can you reduce the odds in your favor?
You can start by eliminating any golfer over the price of 150/1. During the year there will be a couple of tournaments won by players at huge prices, but it so rarely happens that it’s worth discounting any player over 150/1.
This should only leave you with around one third of the field left to consider, usually around 40+ mark.
You should then start to study the form of the remaining players. The two PGA golf websites have plenty of player and tournament statistics available and they are an invaluable source for anyone wanting to have a wager on a golf tournament.
If a player is out of form and has failed to make the cut in his last two or three tournaments it’s worthwhile waiting until he returns to form before putting any money on them. That will probably reduce the field by another 5+ players.
You should then look for players with previous form over the course or a course very similar in its makeup. Similarly any player that has previously done well in the tournament in the past has to be considered.
Players who are currently in a good run of form must also be high on your list of possible winners and should be on your short list.
Finally look for a combination of any player with decent current form, suitability to the course and any previous tournament form and this should considerably shorten the list of potential players to consider.

It’s worth noting that a lot of bookmakers offer a percentage of the odds on the first four or five placed players, so backing your final selection each/way can provide a return especially if they are at decent odds.
